The Big Greek Cafe, a family-owned Greek restaurant chain from Maryland, is opening at 1470 North Point Village Center in Reston, in the space California Tortilla left in 2025. Its application for a certificate of occupancy, filed Sept. 15 under the name “Big Greek Cafe,” is now in review with Fairfax County, according to the county’s PLUS system.

The Burn first spotted the plans in county paperwork on Sept. 15, and FFXnow confirmed them a week later. The company’s director of operations told FFXnow that the team hopes to open at the end of this year, or otherwise in early 2027.

Twin brothers opened the first Big Greek Cafe in Silver Spring in 2009

The Big Greek Cafe started in Silver Spring in 2009, when twin brothers Simos and Nikos opened it with family recipes, according to the company. It now runs 16 restaurants, 12 in Maryland and four in Virginia. The Virginia shops in Alexandria, Leesburg, Sterling and Oakton were SouvlakiBar locations that joined the company in a 2024 merger, so FFXnow counts Reston as the chain’s first new-build restaurant in Virginia.

A gyro pita costs $11.99, and gyros are $7 on Wednesdays

The chain’s current menu is built around fast-casual Greek staples. Gyro, chicken or pork souvlaki and bifteki pitas cost $11.99, and any of them can become a platter for $6 more. Bowls start at $14.99, the Big Greek Salad at $12.75, and the menu also includes spanakopita, moussaka, pastichio and lamb chops. A Big Greek Feast for two runs $28.99. Every Wednesday, gyros drop to $7.

Most locations open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Reston’s hours have not been announced.

North Point has signed a gym, a smoothie shop and an empanada shop in the past year

North Point Village Center is the Giant-anchored center on Reston Parkway at Baron Cameron Avenue. Sweat440 and Robeks are on the way, and Empanadas de Mendoza opened there late last year. The Big Greek Cafe joins Chick-fil-A, Call Your Mother, Gregorio’s and Matsutake in the center.

For the neighborhoods around North Point, where the Giant already draws daily errands, the Big Greek Cafe adds a quick sit-down or takeout dinner a short drive or walk from home.
