If you’ve lived in Reston or Herndon for any length of time, you already know that summer here hits differently than almost anywhere else in Northern Virginia. Between late May and early September, seven different free concert series light up the area on weeknights and weekends alike — at the Herndon Town Green, the Reston Town Center Pavilion, Reston Station’s Metro Plaza, Lake Anne Plaza, Halley Rise, and the parks around Town Square. That is, by any measure, a remarkable amount of free live music.
This post rounds up every 2026 concert series in one place, with dates, lineups, and venue details. Some series have released their full schedules; others are still finalizing a few dates. I’ll note where things are still being announced and link to the official pages so you can check back for updates.
Whether you’re a longtime local or you just moved to the area and want to hit the ground running, bookmark this page. It’s going to be a busy summer.
1. Friday Night Live! — Herndon Town Green
When: Every Friday, May 22 through September 4, 2026
Time: 6:00 pm (concessions open) through 10:00 pm
Where: Herndon Town Green, Downtown Herndon
Cost: Free admission; food, beer, wine, and seltzer available for purchase
More info: herndonrocks.com
Friday Night Live is the granddaddy of the local free concert scene. Produced by the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, it has been running since 1995 and this summer marks the 32nd season. The season finale on September 4 — Shake the Room — will be the 500th programmed show since the series launched. That’s a milestone worth showing up for.
Shows are on the Town Green in downtown Herndon, just steps from local restaurants and shops. Concessions open at 6:00 pm and music runs until 10:00 pm. The crowd is a genuine mix: families with lawn chairs and strollers, couples, groups of neighbors, and people who just happen to be walking by and decide to stay. That’s the spirit of the thing.
The full 2026 lineup has been released. Here’s the complete schedule:

One note: in past years, there has occasionally been a week off around the Fourth of July when the Town of Herndon’s Independence Day celebration takes over the Town Green. In 2026, July 4 falls on a Saturday, so the concert on Friday, July 3 is on the schedule as normal with Social Call performing. Check herndonrocks.com as that date gets closer.
2. Reston Concerts on the Town — Reston Town Center Pavilion
When: Every Saturday, May 16 through August 22, 2026
Time: 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm
Where: The Pavilion at Reston Town Center, 11900 Market Street, Reston
Cost: Free admission; free garage parking on site
No outside alcohol permitted | Rain or shine (covered Pavilion)
More info: restontowncenter.com or call 703-435-6600 x2 for day-of weather updates
The RTC Pavilion concert series is now in its 33rd season, and it remains one of the best-produced free shows in the DMV. The covered Pavilion means rain doesn’t derail your plans, and the free garage parking removes one of the usual headaches of coming into Town Center. The acts tend to lean toward recognizable tribute bands and regional favorites with broad appeal — the kind of lineup that makes a Saturday night easy for everyone.
The full 2026 schedule is partially released. The first half of the season (late May through mid-June) hasn’t been fully announced yet. What’s confirmed so far:

3. Fab Fridays Summerbration — Reston Station
When: Every Friday, May 29 through August 30, 2026

Where: Metro Plaza at Reston Station, 1906 Campus Commons Dr, Reston (near the Silver Line Metro)
Cost: Free admission
Presented by: Reston Community Center, Reston Station, and MSE Productions
More info: restoncommunitycenter.com
Summerbration at Reston Station is one of those series that catches people off guard the first time they walk past it. The setting — at the base of the Reston Station development, right next to the Wiehle-Reston East Metro — is legitimately impressive for a free outdoor show. The series is produced by MSE Productions in partnership with RCC, and the talent reflects that: the lineups skew toward well-produced tribute acts that draw real crowds.

4. Sunset Concerts at Lake Anne Plaza
When: Wednesdays, June 24 through August 22, 2026
Time: 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Where: Lake Anne Plaza, 1609 Washington Plaza, Reston
Cost: Free admission
More info: restoncommunitycenter.com
Lake Anne Plaza is one of the most distinctive outdoor settings in all of Northern Virginia. Designed in the 1960s as part of Robert Simon’s original Reston vision, the plaza sits at the edge of Lake Anne with a waterfront promenade and the kind of old-world European feel you don’t often find in the suburbs. On Wednesday evenings, when the light gets long and the music starts, it is a genuinely nice place to be.
RCC brought the Sunset Concerts back to Lake Anne a couple of years ago after a pandemic-related hiatus, and the series has been well received since its return. The 2026 schedule runs from June 24 through August 22. The specific lineups for this series are typically announced closer to the season start, so check the RCC website for updates as we get into May and June. In the meantime, put Wednesdays on your calendar.

5. Take a Break Thursdays — Halley Rise
When: Thursdays, summer 2026 (dates to be confirmed)
Time: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Where: Halley Rise (near Wegmans), 1800 Discovery St, Reston
Cost: Free admission
Presented by: Reston Community Center
More info: restoncommunitycenter.com
Take a Break Thursdays at Halley Rise is the most eclectic of the five RCC summer series. The booking tends to pull from a wider range of genres — you might get swing and klezmer one week and Caribbean rhythms the next. The venue itself is Halley Rise, the newer mixed-use development near the Herndon Metro station and Wegmans, which has a pleasant outdoor plaza well suited to an early-evening show.
The 2026 specific dates and lineup for Take a Break are still being finalized. RCC typically announces the full schedule in May, so check restoncommunitycenter.com for the update. Given past seasons, expect the series to run most Thursdays from early June through late August.
6. Saturday Morning Family Fun — Town Square Park
When: Saturdays, June 15 through August 3, 2026
Time: 10:00 am to 10:45 am
Where: Town Square Park at Reston Town Center (corner of Market St and Reston Pkwy)
Cost: Free admission
Presented by: Reston Community Center
More info: restoncommunitycenter.com
If you have young kids, this is the series that will make your summer. The Saturday morning shows at Town Square Park are short by design — 45 minutes — and they are pitched squarely at families with small children. The acts are engaging, the setting is right in the heart of Town Center, and the timing works well for families who want to get out early before the summer heat kicks in.
Shows run June 15 through August 3. The specific 2026 performers will be announced by RCC closer to the season. Put this one on the calendar now if you have littles at home.

7. Sunday Art in the Park with Shenandoah Conservatory
When: Sundays, June 8 through August 24, 2026
Time: 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Where: Corner of Market Street and Explorer Street, Reston Town Center
Cost: Free admission
Presented by: Reston Community Center and Shenandoah University
More info: restoncommunitycenter.com
Sunday Art in the Park rounds out the week nicely. Produced in partnership between RCC and Shenandoah University’s Conservatory, the series features different Shenandoah ensembles each week — strings, brass, chamber groups, and more. The level of musicianship is genuinely high, and the outdoor setting in the heart of Reston Town Center gives it a European summer festival feel.
This is the series that tends to surprise people the most. Reston gets a lot of credit for its free pop and rock concerts, but a summer full of high-quality classical and chamber music at no cost, on Sunday evenings, in a beautiful outdoor setting, is worth knowing about.
The 2026 lineup is finalized by Shenandoah University each season and announced in the spring. Check restoncommunitycenter.com for updates.

A Word on the Weather
A few practical notes. The RTC Pavilion concerts are rain or shine because of the covered venue, but most of the other series are outdoors without cover. RCC maintains a weather cancellation line at 703-476-4500 and typically posts updates on their Facebook page. For Friday Night Live, check herndonrocks.com or their social accounts (@herndonrocks) on the day of the show.
Reston and Herndon summers can be hot and humid. The evening shows (7 pm and later) are generally manageable, but the 10 am Saturday morning concerts are obviously a better bet for families looking to avoid the worst of the afternoon heat.
One More Reason to Love Living Here
If you’re new to the area and wondering what living here actually feels like beyond the commute and the square footage — this is a good answer. Reston and Herndon aren’t just convenient places to live. They’re communities with genuine public life built into them. The concert series isn’t an afterthought; it’s a core part of what makes summer here worth having.
If you’re thinking about buying or selling in Reston or Herndon, Kathy and I would love to talk. We live here, we know the neighborhoods, and we can tell you which pockets of the community tend to fill up the fastest and why. Reach out anytime — there’s no pressure and no obligation.
Schedules updated as of April 2026. For the most current lineups, check each series’ official website. Some TBA dates may be announced before the season begins.
