South Lakes beat Battlefield 34-12 in Reston on Thursday night and moved to 3-0. Oakton and Westfield reached 3-0 the same evening. All four football games ran Thursday, September 10, and no school we cover played on Friday.
Below sits every varsity result from September 6 through September 12 across South Lakes, Herndon, Oakton, Westfield and Chantilly, along with where to watch this week. Twenty-one varsity home events land between Monday and Saturday, and the Concorde District brings cross country back to Lake Fairfax Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Football: three teams at 3-0
Fairfax County put the whole slate on Thursday, September 10, all four games at 7:00.
- South Lakes 34, Battlefield 12, at South Lakes
- Oakton 48, Woodson 28, at Woodson
- Westfield 35, Langley 28, at Westfield
- Chantilly 43, Herndon 7, at Herndon
Westfield and Langley finished within a touchdown. Oakton has scored at least 48 in all three of its games. Chantilly’s win in Herndon was its second of the season.
Records through three weeks: South Lakes 3-0, Oakton 3-0, Westfield 3-0, Chantilly 2-1, Herndon 0-3.
Cross country: Herndon at Bluemont, and Concorde returns to Reston
Herndon ran the Liberty District’s third meet of the season on Wednesday, September 9, at the Bluemont 5K course in Arlington. Windsor Running timed it and posted full results.
Three schools scored in the boys 5K. Yorktown won with 18 points, Washington-Liberty took 42, and Herndon 85. Jeffrey McDonald led Herndon in 23:21.90.
Two schools scored in the girls 5K, Yorktown with 15 and Washington-Liberty with 50. No Herndon runner appears in the published girls results.
The Concorde District did not race last week. It comes back Wednesday, September 16 at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston at 4:45, which puts South Lakes, Westfield, Chantilly and Centreville on a course inside Reston on a weekday afternoon.
Volleyball
Herndon opened the week on the road Tuesday, winning 3-1 at Washington-Liberty on the girls side, then took Meridian 3-0 at home on the boys side.
Wednesday filled four gyms on the girls side. Washington-Liberty won 3-2 in Reston over South Lakes. Chantilly swept Herndon 3-0 in Herndon. Oakton swept Centreville 3-0 on the road. Westfield beat Wakefield 3-1 at home.
The boys played the same night. McLean swept South Lakes 3-0 in McLean, Chantilly swept Herndon 3-0 in Chantilly, and Oakton swept Centreville 3-0 at home. Westfield’s Tuesday match at Langley carries no posted result.
Field hockey
Seven varsity games across three days.
Tuesday: Chantilly won 7-0 in Herndon. Oakton won 6-0 at Centreville. Marshall beat Westfield 7-1 in Chantilly.
Wednesday: South Lakes beat Madison 3-2 in Reston. Westfield won 2-1 at South County.
Thursday: Oakton won 5-2 at Chantilly. South County beat Herndon 2-0.
Golf
South Lakes played at Centreville on Tuesday. No team total was posted, which now holds for five straight weeks across the school sites, the aggregators and the course listings. We carry golf as schedule only until that changes.
Football moves to Friday
All five schools play Friday, September 18 at 7:00. Oakton is the only one at home.

Monday, September 14 carries seven varsity home events. South Lakes hosts Madison in boys volleyball at 7:00 and Centreville in field hockey at 7:30. Herndon hosts Wakefield in field hockey at 7:30. Oakton hosts McLean in boys volleyball at 7:00. Westfield hosts Chantilly in girls volleyball at 7:15 and Madison in field hockey at 7:30. Chantilly hosts Westfield in boys volleyball at 7:00.
Tuesday, September 15: South Lakes hosts Chantilly in golf at 4:30. Oakton hosts Independence in field hockey at 6:00. Westfield hosts Oakton in golf at 4:15, played at Herndon Centennial Golf Course.
Wednesday, September 16: South Lakes hosts Centreville in girls volleyball at 7:15. Oakton hosts Chantilly in boys volleyball at 7:00 and South Lakes in field hockey at 7:30. Westfield hosts Madison in girls volleyball at 7:15. Chantilly hosts Oakton in girls volleyball at 7:15.
Thursday, September 17: Herndon hosts Madison in volleyball, boys at 5:30 and girls at 7:00.
Friday and Saturday: Oakton hosts Colonial Forge in football Friday at 7:00. Westfield runs a field hockey tournament Friday evening and Saturday morning, with Herndon playing Westfield at 11:00 Saturday.
