South Lakes beat Herndon 48-0 Friday night at South Lakes High School in Reston, the rivalry game we had circled on the calendar since August. We were in the stands for it. Rain came down hard through the first quarter and soaked the field, the players and everyone in the bleachers, and the student section stayed loud and cheerful the whole way through.
The score got lopsided, and the night never lost its energy. From where we sat, the Seahawks seemed able to score whenever they had the ball, and their defense kept Herndon from getting much of anything going on offense. The shutout moves South Lakes to 5-0. Herndon falls to 0-5 and plays at McLean on Friday.
Oakton and Westfield also won, so three of the five football teams we follow are still unbeaten six weeks into the season.
