This year, the parade steps off on Friday, November 28 at 11 a.m. at Reston Town Center, with the half mile route running right down Market Street. Expect giant balloons, marching bands, dancers, local groups, and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus riding in by carriage 🎅 The fun does not end at noon either. Holiday activities, train and carriage rides, Santa visits, shopping, and ice skating keep the energy going into the evening, with the tree lighting and community sing along around 6 p.m. ✨ If you are planning to go, arrive early so you can grab coffee, claim a spot along the route, and let the kids take in all the decorations. Parking in the Town Center garages is free on weekends, or you can take the Silver Line to the Reston Town Center station and walk in. In the warmer months, you can walk to the Reston Farmers Market at Lake Anne on Saturday mornings from 8 to 12, April through late November, and come home with fresh bread, flowers, and produce without ever getting in the car. You can grab brunch or coffee at Lake Anne Coffee House & Wine Bar, with brunch running most days from mid morning into early afternoon, then come back later in the week for happy hour or dinner by the water. In the winter, the ice rink in the pavilion runs daily from early November into March, and there are seasonal events like the holiday parade, tree lighting, and themed skating nights that keep the area busy even when it is cold. greaterrestonliving Yes, Reston really does have its own chocolate factory 🍫 River-Sea Chocolate has brought its bean to bar factory and shop to 11495 Sunset Hills Rd, Suite 110 in Reston, where cacao is roasted, refined, and turned into bars and truffles under one roof. We were invited in for an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the factory floor, following the journey from raw cacao to finished bar. If you stop by, your experience will be different from ours in the best way. You will come for the retail shop, where you can browse single origin bars, playful flavor combinations, and beautiful gift boxes, then peek into the working factory through large viewing windows to watch the chocolate being made. It is a fun way to see production in action without signing up for a full factory tour, and a great hyper local stop to add to your Reston routine. River-Sea sources cacao directly from small scale farmers, focusing on quality, fair pay, and long term relationships. They roast each origin in house to bring out different flavor notes and experiment with unique combinations like fruit, spices, and locally inspired ingredients. Sustainability is a big part of the story too. The name “River-Sea” comes from the place where the Amazon River meets the Atlantic, and some of their cacao is actually shipped across the ocean on modern sailing cargo vessels to reduce the environmental impact of transportation 🌍 If you want to visit, the Reston shop is open Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 7 pm and Friday from 11 am to 5 pm, and it is currently closed on Saturdays and Sundays. greaterrestonliving New brewery vibes in Herndon 🍺 Ornery Public House is now open at Woodland Park Crossing, bringing Ornery Beer Company’s third location to the Dulles corridor. They already have a taproom in Bristow and a brewpub in Fairfax City, and now there is a full service restaurant and bar just off Sunrise Valley Drive in Herndon. Inside, it feels relaxed and low key, but the food is way more elevated than your typical bar menu. We shared a lineup of apps that set the tone right away: pork belly burnt ends, a crispy shrimp appetizer, and bitterballen. The shrimp was my favorite of the three, with just enough kick and crunch to keep me going back for one more bite. For mains, I got the beet salad, which came out fresh, colorful, and surprisingly hearty, while Graham went all in on the French Dip with hand carved roast beef and an ale infused au jus that was perfect for dipping. It is exactly the kind of comfort food that pairs well with a house brewed pint after a long day around Reston and Herndon. If you want to check it out, Ornery Public House in Herndon is at 2310 Woodland Crossing Dr, Suite F, in the Harris Teeter center. They are open Sunday through Thursday from 11 am to 11 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 12 am. I love seeing spots like this fill in around our neighborhoods, giving locals one more walkable place to meet friends, grab a good meal, and enjoy a beer made right here in Northern Virginia. As reported by FFXnow, Booz Allen Hamilton (the global consulting and federal tech/AI powerhouse) is planning to move its longtime Tysons headquarters at 8283 Greensboro Drive to Reston’s emerging Reston Row district at Reston Station. The firm has signed on for a massive 310,000 square feet of office space, including the entire 9-story building at 1870 Reston Row Plaza plus multiple floors at 1800 Reston Row Plaza: trophy office space steps from the Wiehle-Reston East Metro, the new JW Marriott, luxury apartments, and a growing mix of restaurants and retail. Interior buildout is expected to start next summer, with the new HQ opening in fall 2027 and the Tysons campus being decommissioned in 2028, another major vote of confidence in Reston as the place to be for top-tier employers and talent in Northern Virginia.
